In this course, you will practice the four main language skills–listening, reading, writing and speaking–and also increase your active academic vocabulary. You will improve your ability to read and listen critically and efficiently so that you are prepared for academic reading assignments and lectures. You will also learn to add ideas you have learned about to academic discussions and short essays. To help you feel confident in a U.S. university classroom, you will develop critical thinking skills, note-taking strategies, and the ability to create presentations and university-level writing. In addition to interacting in class, you will complete online reading practice and self-study to review classroom material. Topics covered in the course come from a range of disciplines, including business, psychology, education, and anthropology.
