U.S. universities have a strong emphasis on academic integrity, which essentially means: doing your work using your own ideas and your own words without outside help. In this workshop, you will explore what academic integrity looks like and why U.S. universities require high standards of independent work from students. You will learn about the concepts of intellectual property and plagiarism and cultural beliefs about the ownership of ideas. During the workshop, you will discuss practical scenarios to help you understand the university and the professors’ expectations for academic integrity in research and writing, presentations, and group work.
