In this introductory workshop, students explore topics relating to global competency, and consider their own perspectives and biases in order to begin to develop new perspectives as global citizens. Students participate in interactive exercises and scenarios that encourage them to find commonalities amid difference, consider how tolerance promotes peace, and practice assertive communicative skills that they can use to improve relationships among individuals from diverse socio-economic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. As students practice critical analysis, they engage in socio-emotional learning with the goal of developing an open, reflective attitude toward exploring global issues and willingness to take action to promote change. Students who complete the course receive a Global Citizenship Certificate endorsed by the U.N. Charter institution, University for Peace.
